Subject: Report re S Cummings show at Bulli 19.11.04
Hi there,
Just been looking round the Lovetown site after witnessing Stephen Cummings' show at Bulli on Friday night and thought I'd add my two cents!
Was very much looking forward to this show at a newish venue in my area and they didn't disappoint. To see both SC and Shane O'Mara together was pretty exciting for me, had been a long term fan of the Live at the Continental album by Chris Wilson and to hear Shane replicate that gorgeous fluid style in the flesh was very special. Hadn't seen a Steve Cummings show since a mid-90s support spot he did for Kristin Hersh at The Metro Theatre.
The crashing cutlery and drunken table chatter surrounding us didn't dampen the set. Highlights for me were 'Don't Throw Stones' and 'Walk Softly'. All the Sports songs in fact had a fresh treatment and approach and they've since been floating round me head all weekend.
Can only concur with Penny's comments re Basement show in August - outstanding Australian musicians & most radio stations remain oblivious.
Hope there's a return tour to Sydney planned post-Elvis supports, I'll be there.
Brian
